Teenager Bliss

As of Friday, Nate and I are now the proud parents of a thirteen year old.

The said thirteen year old was rudely awaken by his father on the day of his birthday, with strict instructions to get the lawn mowed and do some other chores. The thirteen year old was less than happy and expressed his hatred for his living arrangements and everyone he lived with. He grudgingly got out of bed and went straight to the computer to talk to his "real" friends, ignoring the request of his father until triple digit temperatures were reached so he could adequately whine about how tortured he was for having to do his outside chores.

The day for the child was to only get worse. His mother forgot to get his Oreo birthday cake which he had requested, and which he openly expressed that he was going to be unwilling to share (so if anyone else wanted cake then we were going to have to buy two). He was forced to help get everything ready for the camping/boating weekend trip.

Things looked up when he got to ride shotgun in the truck that his mother was driving towing the boat. She even talked like they would stop on the way up the canyon and get his Oreo cake. But then he quickly realized that riding shotgun with a psycho mother who sings when she is nervous and talks to herself was not his idea of fun.

Once up at camp he was harassed and teased by the adults that his parents called "friends". This was upsetting to the teenager who only wanted the respect that the word "teen" should have brought into his life. He went to bed early (as in 8:30 early).

The next full day of teenagerdom was not much better. He was excited to go out on the boat with his father and mother, but they wanted to sleep in and then eat breakfast before heading out. This was irritating as he was up at the crack of dawn and had to wait almost four hours before he could go out and play. Once on the boat he discovered that it wasn't as fun as he originally thought it was going to be. The water was cold and the lake was choppy. The bad weather put the said teenager into a very BAD mood. He wanted to go home, but the adults planned to spend another night there. He then started up what he called "operation make parents life miserable" which consisted of him constantly whining, smacking around his siblings, and pouting.

His parents did some research to see if they could find a clock that turned back time, but had no luck. They tried to offer him to the neighbors who refused, saying they already had enough of them. It looked like they were stuck with the teen and all that was left to do was count how many years he would have that label...1, 2, 3,... 4,.. 5,.. 6,...................7.

You got to be kidding me! Grey hairs and migrains here we come!!!
