Powell 2009

Our 2009 Powell trip was one of the best yet. Wonderful weather and absolutely beautiful scenery.

We started off the trip on Wednesday evening about 5:30. We drove until we were about an hour away. We usually spend the first night sleeping in the boat. The 45 degree weather made me hesitant to spend 30 minutes trying to get the boat sleep worthy so I took the lazy path and we slept in the car. It was less than fun. It was cold and I lost feeling in almost every part of my body at least once during the night.

We woke early the next morning and drove the rest of the way to the lake. We launched the boat without much trouble. I am getting a tad bit more helpful with all the stressful "stuff". We then went and found us a nice camping spot. It took us a little over an hour and the boat only got stuck around five times before we were done. Nate likes to see how far down a canyon he can get before he gets stuck. He is always telling me he hates to hear me scream, but he is always doing things to make me scream... I guess we haven't found even ground yet.

We finally came upon a spot that was at the end of Moki Canyon. It took all six of us to get our heavy stuff hauled up a hill of sand, but the nice plain on top of the hill was worth the work. Then the vacation began... which means we sat around and did nothing for a while. The first day we went fishing. I caught a cat fish out in the channel, but that was as much luck as we had.

The second day we went on a hike up the canyon. There were Indian ruins and sand hills. The kids showed little interest in the first, but had a lot of fun playing on the second. When we got back to camp we took the boat out and James did a bit of knee boarding.

The third day we went back up to the sand hills at the request of the kids. After three nights the kids were starting to get really grumpy, and they were definitely in murmuring mode. They played for a while and then we went back to camp and packed up to go home.

We stopped at our "traditional" Richardo's restaurant" in Price. That is always Nate's way of making the trip worth it to me... I get a nice Mexican meal when it is over.

We got home about 11:20 last night. Now the next phase of work begins. Unpacking and laundry...
