Day 4, 5, and 6

We woke up to rain on day 4.  Forecaster was right for once. The kids by now were exhausted so we just chilled for most of the morning.  The plan was to head south.  So we got in the car and started driving.  We ended up at the Tillamook cheese factory.  Tillamook cheese is the cheese of choice at our house, and even though we had visited the factory before, we decided to go see it again.
Then we went on a road to take us to the three Capes.  First was Cape Meares.  There was a lighthouse there....

And there was also this really awesome old tree that is called the Octopus tree.  The mist from the rain made it all the more awesome.

Well by the time we got to Cape Lookout the kids wouldn't even get out of the car to look... So we went and took the picture of this sign (probably a 45 minute drive).  Nate's first trip to Oregon was to Cape Meriwether as a scout.  This is as close as he got to there this time around.

Day 5 we drove our trailer from our campground in Nehaven (which the kids loved) to a bug infested swamp called Fort Stevens.  It wasn't really a swamp but it was bug infested!   This old ship wreck is the main attraction.  It was cool for like a whole minute and then it wasn't anymore.
The kids did what they did best.  Boogie Board!  The water was a bit warmer this time and they stayed out for quite a while as Nate and I walked down the beach a mile to keep our eye on them.  They always drift South when boogie boarding.

Then we drove down to the Jettty where Emmy and Ashlee had a little tiff.
There was a wildlife preserve down there and with Nates big camera lens we were able to see two bald eagles sitting on a rock in the distance.
When they realized we were interested in them one took off.
 Then the other.

On Day six we again hung out for a little too long back at camp.  You'd think we were on vacation or something.  Finally when I talked everyone into going out we ended up at the tire store where Nate made some really bad choices and spent a lot of money that we didn't have on new tires.  But I've already told him "I told you so" and so I'll just say that we sat and the tire store... and we sat... and we sat.  Until finally we got to head over the Astoria Bridge into Washington.  There we went and visited a little town called Long Beach Washington which is just so cute and they have a really GOOD bakery there (Sarah and I found it in October when we were there).  No pictures of the Bakery, but the girls did have fun with the sign we passed.

Then we drove down to Cape Disappointment where we went on a hike up to a couple lighthouses.  Ashlee went to the first light house... but by the time we were ready to go to the second one she said she hated lighthouses and so she stayed in the car.   To bad for here because the guy at the top let us look in his big binoculars.

Then we drove back to Astoria just in time for the sunset.  In October Sarah and I went up to the top of the Astoria Column and it was such a crappy day all we could see were the cars in the parking lot.  This is the view we got this time around.

Not too shabby of an ending to our day.
