Kailey's Why Me's

"This is Poison control what can I help you with?" asks the poison control man

"Um yeah, I have some questions for you regarding some snail killer stuff... I think I may be experiencing symptoms of poisoning" replies Kailey

"What is the name of the stuff?"

"Corry's Slug and Snail Death." I read it off the stupid yellow box. That is the last time I pick the cheapest stuff!

"What is the active ingredient?" Why is the active ingredient in tiny tiny letters on the bottom front of a box? I look all over the box. I can't find it. You have to understand I am not feeling good... hence my call to poison control.

Finally... "oh here is the name... metaldehyde"

"Did you eat it?"

"No, I smashed snails (with my hand) that had been eat it"

"Why?"

"To kill them"

"Why did you smash them with your hand?" I knew this was going to come up...

"I don't know, I just did"

"You should probably step on them with shoes next time"

"Well, I smashed them with my hand and then my hand felt weird and now I feel weird. Weird enough I would call you to see if I can get poisoning from smashing poisoned snails with my hand."

"You should probably wash you hand miss"

"Yeah, I did wash my hand... more than once"

"If you think you're poisoned it is possibly from the snails... the metaldyhyde shouldn't cause you to feel light headed. "

"I have smashed snails with my hand before"... yes this is true, I smash snails with my hands frequently (I know gross)..." and I never had skin irritation or felt light headed."

He pauses for a minute, "yeah, you really should smash snails with your feet... wearing shoes"... I am sure he threw that in just for me... "I am not seeing anything about poisonous garden snails. If your symptoms persist you should probably go and see your doctor.

"OK, thank you that is what I needed to know" I am feeling to crappy to be embarrassed, but I know I should be at this point.

"Would you like me to check back with you in a little while?"

"Nope, have a good day"

"You too... bye."

I am thinking that he probably burst out laughing at this point. I felt like laughing because it sounded so stupid... I just wasn't feeling well enough to at that point.

I waited until Nate called me to start laugh crying. Laughing because everyone else thought it was funny, but crying because I am almost positive I got poisoned by smashing those snails. I felt weird all morning. I was vomiting. It just wasn't good!

Warning!!! Do not smash poisoned snails with your hands. One... it may poison you (though that can neither be confirmed or denied by poison control) and two... it is very difficult to try and explain how you got poisoned to other people. Luckily around 1 o'clock the symptoms started to tapper away and I didn't have to explain it the the ER doctor.
